Food in Kitchen
Practical food safety decisions for real home kitchens.

Editorial Policy

Food in Kitchen publishes practical food safety guides for home kitchens. Our editorial goal is to help readers make clear, conservative decisions about whether to keep, chill, freeze, reheat, or discard food.

How We Choose Topics

We focus on real-life kitchen situations, especially the questions people ask when a safety decision needs to be made quickly. Examples include food left out overnight, refrigerators running too warm, meal prep storage, party foods, lunch bags, and desserts that may need refrigeration.

How We Use Sources

We use official and reputable food safety sources as a baseline, including FoodSafety.gov, USDA FSIS, FDA, CDC, and university extension food safety resources.

We do not copy government pages. We summarize, explain, and apply food safety guidance to practical household situations. When possible, we link readers to primary or high-authority sources so they can review the underlying guidance.

Conservative Food Safety Advice

When food safety is uncertain, we prefer conservative guidance. If the time-temperature history is unknown, if food was left in the danger zone too long, or if food may have been mishandled, our guidance will usually recommend discarding the food.

We do not encourage readers to rely on smell, taste, or appearance as the only safety test for perishable foods.

How We Write Articles

Review and Updates

We may update pages when official guidance changes, when we identify clearer explanations, when new examples are useful, or when a page needs better structure. Significant updates may be reflected in the page’s updated date.
